Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Sift ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

Description of Service

Sift is a free, client-side tool for optimizing variable fonts for web use. The Service processes fonts entirely within your browser using WebAssembly technology. No data is transmitted to or stored on our servers.

Font Licensing

Important: You are responsible for font licensing.

When using Sift:

  • You must have the legal right to use, modify, and subset any fonts you process
  • Sift does not grant you any rights to fonts you do not already have permission to use
  • Some font licenses may restrict modification or subsetting — check your license terms
  • We recommend using fonts with permissive licenses (OFL, Apache 2.0) for web projects

Acceptable Use

You agree to use Sift only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Use the Service to process fonts you don't have rights to modify
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
  • Use the Service in any way that could damage or overburden our infrastructure
  • Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS. WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES ABOUT THE ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR QUALITY OF ANY CONTENT OR RESULTS OBTAINED THROUGH THE SERVICE.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sift and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to claims related to font licensing violations.

Changes to Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of the Service.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We encourage you to review these terms periodically.
